CIIE 2024 | AustCham CEO on Debut of Australian Avocados

AustCham Foundation member, Avocados Australia, made its debut at the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE) last week, signing a AUD300 million trade memorandum with Shanghai Markets and further agreements with JD Super and the CFN Association.

In an interview with Yicai Global at the Shanghai Markets MOU signing, AustCham China CEO Tian Zhang highlighted the immense potential in Australia-China trade for CIIE participants.

Tian noted that the special CIIE approval process to bring Australian avocados to this year’s expo, despite the fruit not yet having China market access, showed the Shanghai government’s strong support for including high-quality Australian products in this year’s expo.

Tian also highlighted the rising demand for avocados among Chinese consumers and emphasised that CIIE is a perfect platform for Australian businesses to engage with the China market.

Overall, the record-breaking participation of Australian businesses at this year’s CIIE underscores the growing opportunities for Australian exporters in China and paves the way for enhanced bilateral trade and stronger economic ties between the two countries.
