National People’s Congress Briefing 2016

On Thursday the 24th of March AustCham Beijing, in conjunction with AmCham China and the Center for China and Globalisation, hosted an exclusive chamber briefing on the 2016 National People’s Congress (NPC), focusing discussion on the 13th Five Year Plan. Speakers included Ms. Li Lu, Principal of GM & Associates and Vice-Chair of AmCham China’s Chinese Government Affairs Committee; Mr. Yuan Haiying, President of Yuan Associates; David Kelly, Managing Director of China Policy and Dr. Liu Ke, Deputy Director of Center for China and Globalisation. This event was moderated by Rowan Callick, Asia Pacific Editor of the Australian Newspaper.

The panel of experts guided discussion on the 13th Five Year Plan, with topics ranging from innovation and the rule of law to environmental concerns and administrative ideology. During the extended question and answer session, event attendees were able to delve into the intricacies and future implications of the new Five Year Plan, with speakers fielding questions in regards to the One Belt One Road initiative, the five principles outlined in the plan and how to understand and interpret this new policy as a foreigner doing business in China.
