At the 20th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress on 28 April 2016, the People’s Republic of China adopted the Law on the Management of Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations’ Activities within Mainland China.

Wang Liwei

CEO, China Development Foundation

Wang Liwei advises the Chinese Government on issues relating to non-profit work and in this capacity sits on the board of the Ministry of Commerce, the All China Industry and Commerce Federation and State Owned Enterprise Chamber of Commerce (SASAC). Founder of the Charitarian magazine, Wang actively influences, inspires, supports and challenges government agendas in the fields of education, health and universal values. Wang is also an advisor at Tsinghua University CSR Centre, Beijing. In recognition for his work in establishing charitable vocational schools in Shandong, Wang was made the honorary vice-mayor for education in the province, which involves frequent media appearances in China and the UK regarding bilateral trade. For many years, he has been a strong supporter of social responsibility projects and currently runs a rural teacher training project for 600 teachers and headmasters per annum from the west of China at international schools in Beijing.

 

Clare Pearson

International Development Director, Asia, DLA Piper

Chair, British Chamber of Commerce in China

At DLA Piper, Clare’s role involves acting as a liaison between international boards, creating global strategy documents and enabling cross-selling of clients between offices. As a Pro-Bono Counsel for the firm she has advised Charitable Business Trusts and many global NGOs such as the Clinton Foundation and Mercy Corps on their operations in China. As the Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, Clare works closely with the British Embassy to facilitate the Sino-UK business relationship. She also sits on the Board of the China-Britain Business Council as Vice-Chair in London. She has lived in China for twelve years.

 

Joshua Freedman

Research Manager, Social Policy, China Policy

Joshua Freedman is research manager for social policy at China Policy. Previously, he researched China’s pension reform as a Henry Luce Foundation visiting fellow at China Agricultural University in Beijing. His writing on both the US and China has appeared in numerous international publications, including The Atlantic, Forbes, and Washington Monthly.
