About Tianjin

Tianjin has become an attractive location for foreign businesses given its advanced port facilities, rapid urban development, and proximity to Beijing. And as one of the four direct-controlled municipality cities, it offers an exciting alternate to basing headquarters in the capital.

As the only northern free trade zone in China, Tianjin will play a critical role for the Asia-Europe Continental Bridge and “one-belt and one-road strategy” as newly unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Tianjin was a county town in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and became a municipality in 1928. Tianjin has a huge western influence as the city sectioned and occupied by eight other countries including; Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Great Britain, Austria, and Belgium, as well as Japan.

Visiting Tianjin

As of June 8th 2015, citizens of 51 countries and regions including Australia, USA, UK, and Canada can be granted a visa-free stay of up to 72 hours when taking an international transfer via Binhai Airport. However, tourists on this visa cannot leave the city.

Living in Tianjin

In recent years the city has also undergone a major facelift, including the redevelopment of the Haihe River, inspired by Australian architects and Melbourne’s Yarra River. The opening of new five star international hotels, international schools and a smorgasbord of western grocery and food outlets is also seeing a growing number of expats opting for Tianjin as a more liveable alternative to Beijing.
