POST EVENT UPDATE | University of Newcastle Beijing Alumni & Friends Reception

On Friday, July 5th, AustCham co-organised the University of Newcastle’s Beijing Alumni and Friends reception. The event highlighted the long-standing relationship between the University of Newcastle and China, and celebrated the Ma & Morley Scholars at the conclusion of their trip to China this year.
The reception was hosted at our member hotel Hotel Jen, where guests were treated to Hotel Jen’s signature food and drink. Testimonies from the Ma & Morley Scholars, in addition to speeches given by key university officials, were presented to University of Newcastle alumni, current students and friends.
AustCham is proud to be involved in the organisation of this programme, which exposes students to the Australia China business space. The Ma & Morley Scholars at the University of Newcastle represent a range of educational backgrounds, and the scholarship revolves around the values of peace, equity and justice, and environmental sustainability. Highlights from the scholars’ two-week trip to China included visiting Hangzhou’s West Lake, the meeting place of Jack Ma and Ken Morley, and hearing from a range of industry leaders in China.

The University of Newcastle invites alumni and friends to attend their 2019 Beijing reception. The event will be a great opportunity for University of Newcastle alumni to connect in China, and special guests Professor Kevin Hall, the University’s Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President of Global Engagement & Partnerships and Rebecca Hazell, Director of Advancement will be in attendance.
The event will also celebrate the university’s newest cohort of scholars to the Ma & Morley Scholarship Program, made possible by a gift from the Jack Ma Foundation.
