WE ARE ONE
Even though we may not be many Aussies here in Beijing, we have come together to raise money for the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Over the course of five weeks following the Love Australia Ball on Saturday 14 February, where 250,000RMB was raised to kick off the fundraising, generous contributions at weekly Kooka Networking drinks, silent auction prizes and corporate donations have seen the amount increase to more than 320,000RMB.
We ended the appeal with a special Kooka on the 27th March featuring the Beijing Bombers footy team and a screening of Round One from the AFL Premiership Season (Hawthorn v Geelong). In an exciting finish to the game, Geelong was the winner.
In addition to the support and donations from the organisations mentioned above, AustCham Beijing sends a special thank you to the following:
The Wine Republic
Following the fires, the Wine Republic immediately offered their support to help raise funds for the Bushfire Appeal. The prize was competitively fought over in a 6 week long silent auction at Kooka. A message from the Wine Republic follows:
"The Wine Republic would like extend a HUGE thanks to Paul Adkins for donating 15000 RMB which will go straight to helping out all those families affected in the Australian Bush Fire. In return, he receives 12000 RMB of premium wine over the course of the year, which works out to be approximately one glass of wine per day! So thank you Paul Adkins, AustCham Beijing and everyone else for all your support!
Thanks again!
The Wine Republic Team"

Thank you to John Rice, TS Cheah and Reto Leutenegger for their support, making Kooka Networkings Drinks a dream to organise, for providing prizes for the raffle and silent auction and for setting up one of the best places in Beijing to view the AFL on Friday 27 March, with three seperate screens!
