CSR Day at AIESEC National Conference

On Friday 27 March, 330 delegates from all over China arrived at the YuanYang International Hotel for the start of a three day Regional Induction Conference. Delegates attending were first and second year university students who are new members of AIESEC. The purpose of the conference was to learn more about the organization and to enhance their skills in the functional areas of AIESEC.

The conference kicked off with a Corporate Social Responsibility afternoon. Standard Chartered Bank, Environmental Education Media Project for China (EEMPC) and Chinese NGO Hong De Zhong Yuoi, each ran workshops on different themes present in China. Standard Chartered Bank ran an interactive session to do with the HIV/Aids situation in the country. EEMPC gave the delegates insight into ecosystems and communities and how with the right education sustainable environments can be created. Hong De Zhong Yuoi presented a case study on the Sichuan Earthquake, and the opportunities that NGO's have to make a difference when these disasters occur.

From the CSR afternoon, the delegates became passionate about these issues, and in the sessions that followed they learnt about what opportunities exist in AIESEC to create positive change in these areas. On Sunday the conference wrapped up and the delegates returned to their respective cities and universities, ready to become active in their AIESEC Local Committees on campus.

If you or your organization would like to find out about ways you can engage with AIESEC for future CSR events, please contact Indira - aiesec.austcham@gmail.com or visit www.aiesec.org

Australia Ball 2009

The annual Australia Ball was another great night out, with 650 guests embracing the red tie dress code, enjoying fabulous Australian produce, wine and beer and dancing the night away with a fabulous performance by the Enormous Horns. We were privileged to have Jackie Chan in attendance on the evening, with his attendance contributing hugely to the record amount of money raised for our two nominated recipients - Heart to Heart Shanghai and the Australian Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. Once again, we thank Jackie for giving his time and support to our Ball, with every cent raised on the evening making a real difference. The standards and expectations for the 2010 Ball are already sky high!

Documentary Screening - Children of the Stars

World Autism Day takes place on April 2 every year. AustCham Beijing coordinated a special screening of Children of the Stars at the Australian Embassy, a documentary produced in 2008 telling the story of a family's experience with Stars & Rain, a facility in south-east Beijing providing support and guidance for parents of children with autism. Following the 45 minute screening, the capacity crowd had the opportunity to ask questions of both the production team and Tian Huiping from Stars & Rain more about how they can contribute to the ongoing needs of the organisation.
